Question for those of you who have English as first language.?

Very good question. When I read German or Dutch there are some words that I can understand due to their similarity to English. There are also some words in English and dutch which may not be spelled the same way as their English counterparts, but are pronounced similarly. For instance, the english word "year" (ano in Spanish) is "Jahr" in German. It is spelled differently but is pronounced very similarly.
